I received shipping confirmation this morning!
My Canon EOS Rebel XSi (450D) DSLR camera is on its way; 12.2MP, black. I ordered the kit, which includes an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. I also ordered an EF-S 60mm Macro USM Lens f/2.8-32, and extra memory cards.
I might be able to keep up with that little boy a little bit better the next time he comes for a visit!
I have been booked to photograph a 6-week-old baby girl at the end of the month.

The awakening will soon begin. I pulled to the side of the road last weekend to take a few photos. A little processing was necessary due to exposure.
This is another from last Mother's Day. This is the little guy who displaced yesterday's subject as the youngest in the family; with the arrival of a little brother, he has since been displaced himself! That's his mother, my youngest sister, in the background. I believe he was having his first taste of cake -- being primed for his first birthday a month later. There are several I took that day and in this very strong light. My focus wasn't always the best and the strong light messed things up even more, but the images are appealing to me. I didn't do a thing to this except 1) run a Photoshop sepia action and 2) remove the barely visible tines of the fork he was holding (they were at bottom right).
I took this photo of my nephew last Mother's Day -- it needed some help. Let me count the ways...
I straightened and cropped it, to begin with, then followed an online tutorial (@ smugmug?) for basic sharpening and color adjustment. Happy with the results of those plays, I then applied a stock sepia action.
It looks great in black & white, too, but for some reason that file doesn't want to be a jpg -- it's either psd or tiff. fffff
