Ten on Tuesday: Thankful
Happy Thanksgiving!

Is there one of these for every state in the union?

That image makes me want to wear leather and blow smoke rings. But, of course, I won't.

Wisconsin is known for many things, people, places and events, including but not limited to:

  • Cheese and fresh (meaning squeaky) cheese curds
  • Beer
  • Bratwurst
  • The Packers, The Brewers, and The Badgers
  • University of Wisconsin
  • Oshkosh (B'gosh)
  • EAA
  • Laura Ingalls Wilder
  • Big Woods
  • Jane Hamilton
  • Geogia O'Keefe
  • Willem Dafoe
  • Harry Houdini
  • Tony Shalhoub
  • Liberace
  • Les Paul
  • Steve Miller
  • Charlotte Rae
  • Carol Merrill
  • Allen Ludden (and so, by marriage, Betty White)
  • Frank Lloyd Wright (etc.)
  • Chris Farley
  • Lynn Fontanne
  • Neenah Foundry (watch your manhole covers)
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • Fort Howard
  • Kohler
  • Harley-Davidson
  • The Onion
  • Summerfest
  • Wisconsin Dells (and Ducks)
  • Polka
  • Violets
  • Cream Puffs
  • Trilobytes
  • Knitting Camp
  • Elizabeth Zimmermann
  • Meg Swanson
  • The Kitchen Table
  • Joyce Willilams
  • Amy Detjen
  • TechKnitter
  • Sievers School

...and Knitcircus. I've been watching Knitcircus develop and grow -- by leaps and bounds this past year or so, it seems, liking each issue more than the last. I really liked quite a few designs in the just-released Winter issue, and was informed a couple of days ago that I won a subscription for Knitcircus in a drawing at the knottygnome knits! You guessed it, the subscription begins with the Winter issue! Thank you, Sara!

Now... which pattern to knit first!?

We're also fortunate to have the Madison Knitters' Guild in Wisconsin. I have never been a member before, but mentioned to Angie a couple of weeks ago that I was thinking of joining... I would rarely be able to attend the regular meetings, but they have some pretty stellar special events and the annual membership is not too steep. Thoughts?

I am thankful to be launching into a four-day holiday weekend!! Gobble.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Vicki! There are so many great people and ideas on your list it makes me want to visit! xoxo

Add Neil Gaiman to your list -- he lives in Menominee.

MKG has some spectacular speakers. I should rejoin because just getting to one or two meetings a year was worth it. I think you should join. There may still be the yarn discount for members..... :D

I grew up in Rockford, Illinois ---- almost at the state line, so I have a strong affinity for Wisconsin myself! What a fun list. Happy Thanksgiving, Vicki!

Did you have to look up stuff for that list or did you already know all that??

Barb Thompson

I am a Wisconsin native living in Maine; in my mind, there is no greater overlooked state than Wisconsin!!! I love it there and visit several times a year. I will always be a fan of everything Wisconsin!!

Sounds like some wonderfully knitty reasons to move to Wisconsin forthwith. Lucky you.

I love my Wisconsin, too. Shout out for SCJohnson in my home sweet hometown. Thanks, Vicki, for sharing thru your blog.

I, too, have been watching Knitcircus develop. I like the polish they are putting on their digital mag, and they offer really great value for the pattern collections. Good stuff - congratulations on winning a subscription!

I hope T-day was great!

I miss Wisconsin so much, I haven't been home since I left 10 years ago. One of the many reasons that I look forward to your posts is hearing you talk about things I have seen or places I have been. Thanks Vicki :)
